Shoppers went wild when Aldi launched the first ever own-brand paper wine bottle earlier this year with our Frugal Bottle, and the supermarket hasn’t stopped there.
From Wednesday May 22, it’s selling the world’s first supermarket own-brand paper gin bottle. The award-winning Greyson’s London Dry Gin (£13.99, 70cl) will be available to buy in Frugal Bottles in Aldi stores across the UK.
Made from 94% recycled paperboard and lined with a food-grade pouch to contain the gin, the easy-to-carry, shatterproof bottle is recyclable and five times lighter than a standard glass bottle – perfect for bank holiday picnics.
Aldi’s Greyson’s London Dry Gin is an elegantly smooth and complex tipple that boasts bright citrus and juniper flavours, complemented with botanical hints for a delicately refined finish.
As well as cutting carbon, shoppers can save 20% compared to Greenall’s Paper Bottle giving gin lovers even more reason to say cheers this summer.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our well-loved Greyson’s gin in paper packaging – a significant step towards fostering sustainable change. The paper bottled wine has been a hit with shoppers and we’re excited to extend this out into the spirits category.”
Aldi has worked with Frugalpac on the supermarket-first initiative. The Ipswich-based company is on a mission to reduce the impact of carbon on the planet through engineering sustainable packaging, using recycled paper, that is both light in weight and can be recycled.
Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh added: “This is a big vote of confidence from one of the UK’s leading supermarkets in our paper Frugal Bottle.
“After selling three Frugal Bottle machines for export and winning a King’s Award for Enterprise, 2024 is shaping up to be a great year for Frugalpac, our team and our mission to decarbonise the wine and spirits industry.”
