Morrisons has become the latest UK supermarket to sell our paper Frugal Bottles by stocking Interpunkt wines in their stores.
The supermarket chain is the first to sell the Interpunkt wines after only being available in on-trade in the UK at All Bar One and other bars.
Morrisons are the third UK supermarket to stock Frugal Bottles after Sainsbury’s stocked When In Rome Wines and Greenall’s Gin and Aldi launched its own brand Cambalala South African wines in our paper bottle.
The Interpunkt wines stocked in Morrisons are a Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc and are retailing for just £6.
Andrew Ingham, founder of Interpunkt wines, said:
“Returning to Morrisons with Interpunkt is a full-circle moment for me. As a former wine buyer there, I’m so happy about this exclusive promotion, and that Morrisons customers will have the chance to try these wines, in the paper Frugal Bottle.
“Interpunkt was born out of both frustration and passion: frustration with the wine industry’s slow pace in addressing the climate crisis, especially with packaging, and a passion for creating a wine brand that speaks to casual drinkers like me, who appreciate wine without the elitist wine culture that often surrounds it.
“I didn’t want to just launch another wine; I wanted some kind of rebellion, a challenge to the norms, and now it’s right in the supermarket where part of my own wine journey took place. It’s more than just a bottle of wine to me; it’s a personal crusade to change how we enjoy and think about wine and to decarbonise one bottle of wine at a time.
“I’m particularly grateful for Morrisons and their leadership in embracing this innovative Fruglapac paperboard bottle, a step that demonstrates their commitment to sustainability and to offering their customers a brand that is redefining wine with a direct, fun, and unapologetically rebellious attitude.”
Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh added: “Morrisons is now the third UK supermarket to stock our Frugal Bottles, joining Sainsbury’s and Aldi.
“The biggest carbon footprint in UK supermarkets is in the wine and spirits aisles and offering our Frugal Bottle allows them to cut the carbon footprint of their bottles by 84%.
“We wish Andrew and Interpunkt all the best and warmly welcome Morrisons to our paper bottle revolution.”
More than 35 different drinks producers from around the world have launched 128 different SKUs of wines, spirits and olive oils in the Frugal Bottle.
Frugal Bottles are now available in 25 countries including Australia, Japan, North America, Canada, the UK, across Europe, Scandinavia, and South Africa.
Earlier this month, Frugalpac won a King’s Award for Enterprise for innovation for its Frugal Bottles, which are made from 94% paperboard, are are five times lighter than a glass bottle and use six times less carbon to create, transport and dispose of.”
