The Frugalpac paper bottle revolution took over ProWein 2023 in Düsseldorf, with the media describing our Frugal Bottle as “increasingly ubiquitous.”
Visitors to one of the world’s largest wine trade fairs saw the only commercially available paper wine and spirits bottle being used by some of the more than 30 brands using it around the world.
ProWein found that one in three visitors were interested in alternative packaging.
Brands presenting their new Frugal Bottles at ProWein included Cantina Goccia, When in Rome, Bodegas Fernando Castro, La Bouteille Qui Cartonne, Bodegas Murviedro, Château La France and Buen Vato.
Our Commercial Director Paula Kendall also gave a talk on sustainable packaging with Ceri Parke, the co-owner of Cantina Goccia, who were the first wine brand to use our Frugal Bottle in June 2020.
Harpers Wine and Spirit, reporting the talk, wrote : “The increasingly ubiquitous Frugalpac design, which features a paper bottle and plastic bag insert used by When in Rome and others in the UK, also made an appearance at the session via Umbria producer Cantina Goccia.”
Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh said: “The response to our Frugal Bottle at ProWein has been remarkable. It’s clear the paper bottle is not a flash in the pan. It’s a viable alternative to glass that’s lighter and cuts carbon.
“We’d like to thank all the brands and contract fillers promoting our Frugal Bottles at ProWein. They were early adopters and are true pioneers of our paper bottle revolution.”
More than 30 different drinks producers from around the world have launched wines, spirits and olive oils in the Frugal Bottle which are available in 18 countries including Japan, North America, the UK, across Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Frugalpac also has contract fillers for wines and spirits available in the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, Canada, South Africa and soon to be the USA.
As well as enquiries to make 150m Frugal Bottles, Frugalpac also has strong enquiries from more than 100 other international brand, contract packing and packaging companies to buy Frugal Bottle Assembly Machines. Each machine will be able to produce 2.5 million Frugal Bottles a year and drive out carbon further by being located close to where the wines and spirits are filled.
Canadian packaging firm KinsBrae Packaging has agreed a deal to buy the first Frugal Bottle Assembly Machine – called FBAM-1 and install it in Canada to serve the North America market.
More and more brands are moving from glass to paper – it’s five times lighter than a glass bottle, slashes the bottle’s carbon footprint by 84% and delivers 360 degree branding.
