Frugalpac has held high level visits with drinks and packaging companies in a packed visit to Australia and New Zealand to expand its paper bottle revolution Down Under.

CEO Malcolm Waugh made 19 visits to drinks brands and co-packers that will now see seven Frugal Bottle trials and the imminent announcement of another co-packer to fill the company’s paper bottles in the Southern Hemisphere.

Malcolm’s visit to New Zealand included a catch-up on the first Kiwi paper bottle from gin start-up Mother’s Ruined, founded by British expats Helen Gower and Jo Davy, who met while studying science at Swansea University in Wales in 1993 before emigrating.

Malcolm then visited several New Zealand wineries before heading to Australia to secure further Frugal Bottle trials and confirm an Australian co-packer to fill Frugal Bottles for the wine and spirits sector.

Whilst there, he also saw Silent Pool’s Green Man Vodka on sale in Dan Murphy’s, an Australian drinks chain with 269 stores. Silent Pool’s bottles were chosen by the UK Government to send to the Australian government to mark the recent Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

Finally Malcolm had a meeting with the British High Commissioner Vicki Treadell to brief her on the progress of the Frugal Bottle Down Under and celebrate the launch of the first Australian spirit in Frugalpac’s paper bottle with Mother of Pearl Vodka of the Sea.

Frugalpac CEO Malcolm Waugh said: “It was a very busy but eventful trip to New Zealand and Australia.

“Our paper bottle revolution is gathering pace in both countries. We’ve established a co-packer in Australia and hope to secure another in New Zealand. We also have seven potential customer trials for Frugal Bottles for wines and spirits across both countries.

“Finally we have a combined total of five enquiries to buy Frugal Bottle Assembly machines in Australia and New Zealand and enquiries to order more than 18m Frugal Bottles.”
