KinsBrae offers ‘one stop shop’ to help drink brands in North America move to paper bottles.

Canadian packaging company KinsBrae have opened a ‘one stop shop’ to help drink brands in North America move to low carbon paper bottles – from purchasing the bottles to filling and capping.

Recent research by Lux Research found more than 35 million Americans are interested in finding more sustainable wine packaging and KinsBrae is now taking orders for the revolutionary Frugal Bottle, which is made from 94% recycled paperboard, has a carbon footprint up to six times lower (84%) than a glass bottle and is five times lighter too.

The award-winning Frugal Bottle is the world’s first and only commercially available wine, spirits and olive oil bottle made from recycled paper.

KinsBrae bought the first Frugal Bottle Assembly Machine which will be operational in their facility in Cambridge, Ontario in the next few months.

But they are now offering end-to-end service to also include paper bottle filling and capping.

Recent customers include Demon Spirits’ Demon Spiced Rum and TropiCoco Rum, Buen Vato Tequila and Canadian wine brand Frisky Beaver.

The Frugal Bottle, designed by British sustainable packaging firm Frugalpac, has really taken off in the last 12 months in North America.

The Frugal Bottle and US wine brand Signal 7 Wines won the Best Technical Design Awards for packaging innovation at PAC Global’s Packaging Awards in New York City. They also received an Award of Distinction in the Sustainable Design category.

As well as Signal 7 Wines, two other US drinks producers are launching spirits in the Frugal Bottle in the next two months – Distillery 98’s Half Shell Vodka and Demon Spirits’ rums.

Over 30 other drinks brands, are now using the bottle around the world for wines, gins, vodkas, tequila, calvados and olive oil. The paper bottles are on sale in 20 countriesincluding Japan, North America, the UK, across Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, and soon will be available in South Africa and New Zealand.

KinsBrae Packaging’s President and CEO Shawn Bonnick said:

“KinsBrae was proud to be the first company in the world to acquire a Frugal Bottle Assembly Machine to supply Frugal Bottles to the North American market.

“Now we’ve gone further to offer a one stop shop to help drinks brands join the paper bottle revolution. We’ll be able to help them make the move to more sustainable drinks packaging from helping them with the designs, to producing the bottles, filling and capping them.

“We’ve already had an enormous amount of interest from drinks brands in the US and Canada keen to move from glass to paper.

“We’re looking forward to meeting this demand and doing our bit to help drinks brands decarbonise across North America.”

Frugalpac Chief Executive Malcolm Waugh said:

“The fact that at least 35 million Americans want more sustainable wine packaging shows there is a huge consumer demand for paper bottles.

“KinsBrae Packaging’s new Frugal Bottle Machine combined with dedicated capping and filling for paper bottles will help drinks brands enter this market and reduce their carbon footprint of their bottles by 84%.”
