Londoners stay sustainably hydrated at world’s largest charitable campaign for the homeless

Participants at this weekend’s World’s Big Sleep Out event in Trafalgar Square were kept warm and hydrated with hot drinks served in the innovative Frugal Cup, provided by UK-based sustainable packaging manufacturer, Frugalpac.

Hailed as the largest charitable fundraising campaign in a generation, the London event that took place on Saturday 7 December 2019, saw 2,000 participants, including a host of celebrities, musicians, olympians, acting royalty, top broadcasters and influential politicians, alongside members of the public, sleep under the stars to generate awareness of homelessness and displacement across the UK and raise vital funds to tackle it.

With growing consumer demand for companies to do more to support a more sustainable economy, the environmental impact of the event was a key concern for its organisers. Refreshment stations provided those sleeping out with hot drinks throughout the night, served in the innovative and fully sustainable Frugal Cup.

The first of its kind in the UK, the patented Frugal Cup is engineered so that the two elements separate, and both the recycled paperboard and food grade liner can be easily recycled during the standard paper recycling process. What’s more, when participants were drinking from the Frugal Cup, it had already completed multiple loops of the recycling system as it is manufactured using industry leading 96% recycled content.

Paul McReynolds, Head of Sales & Marketing at Frugalpac, commented:

“We’re so proud to support the World’s Big Sleep Out in London. With the Frugal Cup, participants were able to have a warming drink in an environmentally-friendly recycled Frugal Cup, supporting a circular economy while raising awareness of the issue of homelessness.”
